Medzi celoživotnými priateľmi Erica Voegelina patrili okrem iných i Leo Strauss. Obaja boli bezprostredne donútení k tomu, aby opustili strednú Európu v dôsledku nástupu nacionálneho socializmu. Spájalo je aj téma osudu "západného človeka", ktorý sa stal tým, čím jest, na základe stretnutí biblickej viery a gréckeho myslenia, spájaného s mestami Jeruzalem a Atény.    

Als die Reihe Occasional Papers im April 1996 mit Eric Voegelins Vortrag „Die geistige und politische Zukunft der westlichen Welt“ eröffnet wurde, wurde sie zwar von vielen guten Wünschen und Hoffnungen begleitet, doch stand ihr Erfolg in den Sternen. In June of 1973 Ellis Sandoz went to Eric Voegelin’s home in Palo Alto, California to help record his reminiscences about his life and work. These reminiscences were eventually published as Autobiographical Reflections and later included in Volume 34 of the Collected Works. Poukazuje na hlubší souvislosti, které mohou vést člověka k nahlédnutí svobody a související odpovědnosti za lidskou existenci v prudce se měnících podmínkách současnosti, ve vlnách bouřlivě se měnícího společenského klimatu.  

V članku sa predpokladá, že judaizmus počas grécko-rímskeho obdobia založil nový sposob existencie, uvádzaný v tomto texte ako proleptická existencia. Jej hlavným znakom je psychologická dispozícia urče­ná anticipáciou budúcnosti. Proleptická existencia nie je pre autora ničím špecificky moderným, ale hrá podstatnú rolu pri utváraní modernity.

Rio Preisner byl jednou z velkých osobností katolické emigrace, která dlouho shlížela na osud Evropy z amerického exilu. Podobně jako Eric Voegelin odmítal jakýkoli imanentismus, gnózi, utopie a konečná řešení, na rozdíl od Voegelina však vnímal společnost jako zotročenou, zbavenou paměti, odváděnou systematicky od možností a situací, ve kterých se dá skutečně svobodně rozhodovat mezi dobrem a zlem.     

Voegelinovo pojednání o politických náboženstvích bylo poprvé vydáno v dubnu 1938 ve Vídni. Dosazené nacionálně socialistické vedení nakladatelství ale pro distribuci nic nedělalo, a tak zůstalo pojednání dlouho téměř neznámé. Ani s překlady Voegelinových děl se nijak nepospíchalo. Dílo totiž ukazuje podobnost masových hnutí fašismu, nacismu a komunismu. V Česku vyšla kniha Politická náboženství až v roce 2015 v překladu Jana Freie. Se svolením nakladatelství Oikoymenh představujeme část Leviathan.    

Martin Palous presented the paper ERIC VOEGELIN, "COMMON SENSE" AND CENTRAL EUROPE at the meeting of the Eric Voegelin's Society in Washington in 2000. Real aim was to analyze the alienated relation between Voegelin and Central Europe as someone who has been always connected with this part of the world and who has been experiencing the crisis of European humanity - with its loss of "common sense" - in his own Central European situation.

The following paper has two primary purposes. First it aims to articulate a theoretical proposition in general terms, namely, that every theory of doctrinal development presupposes a philosophy of history. The underlying significance of this proposition is that theories of doctrinal development are simultaneously narratives of the historical significance of the church’s pilgrimage through history, though that fact typically remains implicit in theories of doctrinal development. The second purpose is to illustrate the general proposition by analyzing a particular case. I have therefore outlined some of the salient features of John Henry Cardinal Newman’s theory of doctrinal development and, using ideas from Eric Voegelin’s philosophy, show how it implies a philosophy of history.
